With colder weather on the way, make sure that your blinds and curtains are in place. Unfortunately, window treatments are not always easy to hang — especially if you want to attach hardware to the wall rather than the window trim. Regardless of method, mount to a smooth, flat surface. Here are four options.

1. Glue A Wood Block

Wood Block
One trick is to attach a thin pine block to the wall using construction adhesive, and mount the window treatment on top. Cut the block to match the size of the hardware for a subtle solution.

2. Buy A Decorative Block

Decorative Block
The same technique can help you achieve a custom look with the standard mounting hardware if you use a decorative rosette or plinth block instead of plain pine. Look online or at a lumberyard.

3. Grab A Hammer Drill

Hammer Drill
In rare instances when masonry lurks beneath the wall surface, use a hammer drill and masonry bit to make your hardware holes. Install a plastic wall anchor into the hole and fasten to that.

4. Install A Hollow Wall Fastener

If there’s an air space behind the drywall, use a hollow wall fastener. Raptor anchors did well in a recent test we performed (raptoranchors.com).
