Scion Tricks Out and Trips Out With Hologram tC, Safari xB: Live from SEMA 2007

LAS VEGAS — When Scion customizes a car, it’s usually quite imaginative. But the Ron English tC in the middle of the display hall here at SEMA 2007? Try hallucinatory.

The pop artist’s signature ying-yangs are abound across the body, but it’s that wavy Rabbit Hole hologram across the windows that make this ride a real trip—Ken Kesey would be proud. Lit Media Group was responsible for the custom electroluminescent lighting animation that illuminate in patterns across the car’s sheetmetal—a design sure to confound any driver who would ever come across the Ron English tC on the road. Nineteen-inch custom billet rims by Coddington Wheels and a custom embroidered two-tone leather interior top off this, well, colorful concept car.

It was almost a breath of fresh air, then, to look next to the alien-rabbit weirdness and find, yes, a safari mobile—especially for aspiring spud gunners. Outfitted with a truck conversion body and rear-facing seats, the Sage Vaughn xB L-Con City Safari tucks a pressurized air cannon under its rear cage. Throw in eight super white fog lights and a PA system, and you could seriously take over the neighborhood on a Saturday afternoon—if not the great wide open all summer long. —Basem Wasef
